Portal 2 authoring tools released.

If you were on of the people who finished Portal 2 in an hour, now is your chance to make it harder. Last week Valve released the Portal 2 authoring tools as a free download to anyone who purchased it on PC (and on PS3 since you can now log into your PSN account to activate your steam copy). Here is what you get:

- Updated version of Hammer, the Source level editor
- Updated Faceposer
- Example maps and instances to help build new maps
- Updated suite of command-line compiling utilities

I have had a little bit of time to toy around in Hammer and I look forward to getting my feet wet and attempting a map. A bit of warning though: Since these are the same tools used by Valve for a long time, they are not the most user friendly. Then again, who ever said video game development was easy? Valve has two mailing lists to subscribe to and I’m sure in the coming weeks there will be a few tutorials available as well.

You can go to the official blog to get more info or head over to the Valve Developer Community wiki to get started.
